Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Specialist Contracts to join our Contracts team in the Perth CBD Office.  You will provide day to day management KML’s service contracting functions and liaise with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with KML’s contracting and approval procedures/policies. You will also negotiate with external contractors and suppliers to ensure delivery of services and to protect KML’s commercial interests. Site travel may be required from time to time

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

• Relevant Tertiary Qualifications in Engineering, Law, Accounting, Commerce, or related disciplines.
• Demonstrated experience in the use of contractual documentation in Goods Supply, Service and Project type contracts.
• Large value (circa +$100M/p.a.) contract exposure.
• Excellent understanding of the principles and practice of commercial negotiation.
• Experience in managing the full contract life cycle, including Goods, Services, Take-or-Pay, Energy, Mining and Logistics.
• Experience using SAP and proficient in MS Office Suite.

Key Duties include (but are not limited to):

• Contracting & commercial outcomes that maximise the returns to the Company.
• Training and compliance with the Company’s contracting processes.
• Management of contracting risks.
• Management of Contractor insurance and contracts register.
• Miscellaneous contractual and legal matters.
• Actively identify document and control hazards in your workplace or for your job tasks on the appropriate form (e.g. Job Hazard Analysis form).

About Karara Mining

Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
