Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.
The opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Contracts Specialist to join our Business Planning & Commercial team at our Perth CBD office, this position will operate on a 6-month Maximum Term Contract.
The role primarily involves managing purchasing and procurement contracts for equipment and materials. Candidates with strong tendering experience and a solid background in contract drafting will be highly regarded, especially those who have been involved in fuel purchasing.
To be successful in the role, the following is essential:
- Degree Qualifications in Law, Accounting, Commerce, Engineering or related disciplines
- Sound understanding of the principles and practice of Contracts Management with practical experience
- Demonstrated commercial contracts management and administration experience in similar role
- Practical experience in the use of contractual documentation in Commodity, Service and Project type contracts
- Sound comprehension of the Contracts/Commercial Law and application
- Past exposure to Mining industry in similar role with experience using SAP is beneficial
- Fluency in Mandarin would be advantageous
- National Police clearance

Key responsibilities include:
- Ensure contractors comply with safety policies, procedures, and codes of practice
- Align procurement and contracting processes with business policies, procedures, and best practices
- Handle tender clarifications, non-conformance qualifications, and exceptions
- Ensure contractors deliver goods, services, and projects per agreed terms
- Administer contract revisions, progress claims, and variations
- Interpret contractual documents, support site teams, and manage contractual claims and negotiations
- Prepare contractual correspondence, weekly, and quarterly reports within deadlines
- Maintain the commercial register, including guarantees, claims, variations, and insurance documents
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, conducting regular meetings as needed
- Manage documents and data efficiently
