Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

We are seeking an experienced Light Machinery Technician to join our site-based Maintenance team, overseeing the maintenance of the Karara LV fleet, plant machinery, and ancillary equipment. 

This position operates on an 8 days on and 6 days off roster.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

  • Trade qualification as a LV Mechanic (HD Mechanic preferred) 
  • WA C Class Drivers Licence
  • Skid steer ticket, Loader ticket, Excavator ticket, EWP ticket, Forklift Ticket (desirable)
  • Demonstrated experience working in a mechanical role in a mineral processing environment
  • Proven understanding of mining safety standards, including permit systems and risk management tools
  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite and SAP
  • National Police clearance

 To be eligible to apply for this role you must be legally permitted to work permanently in Australia.

Key Duties (but not limited to) :-

  • Maintain mobile fleet and equipment to high safety, operational, and manufacturer standards  
  • Collaborate with Parts Coordinator to ensure critical parts are stocked for timely repairs  
  • Keep the Light Machinery workshop compliant with safety, environmental, and storage standards  
  • Use CMMS to plan, record, and manage maintenance activities  
  • Identify opportunities to improve reliability and reduce costs  
  • Monitor and communicate LV downtime impacting safety, environment, or operations  
  • Prioritize repairs to minimize disruptions while meeting safety standards  
  • Engage with operations to enhance equipment reliability  
  • Develop strategies to improve reliability and achieve cost savings

About Us

Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
