Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

The opportunity
This position operates on an 8 days on 6 days off roster flying out from Perth.
To be successful in the role, the following is essential:
- A Diploma in Work Health and Safety
- Experience in Incident Investigation Techniques (ICAM, TapRoot and/or 8 Steps / Essential Factors)
- Working knowledge of relevant legislation particularly Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and Regulations 2022
- Demonstrated experience in a similar role in the resource sector
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g. MS Word, Excel, Outlook), INX (desirable) and other applicable software programs
Key Duties include (but are not limited to):
- Carry out assigned tasks to support the development and implementation of projects from the annual Health, Safety, and Training strategic plan
- Support the application of Karara’s risk management processes, including risk assessments at individual, group, and organizational levels
- Coach, mentor, advise, and review incident investigations; support the tracking of preventative and corrective actions through to completion
- Maintain the integrity of data in the Karara Incident Management database (INX) Conduct data analysis to identify trends and inform health and safety improvement initiatives
- Assist in planning and implementing health and safety improvement initiatives
- Provide specialist advice and support regarding relevant health and safety legislation and Karara’s safety policies and procedures
- Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks, and other health and safety training programs as required
- Support Karara’s hygiene monitoring program by conducting atmospheric contaminant sampling and calibrating sampling equipment
- Complete health and safety audits and inspections according to Karara’s compliance monitoring program; prepare reports clearly outlining findings, non-compliances, and opportunities for improvement
- Identify practical solutions to health and safety issues or problems
- Ensure all meetings, reports, and tasks are completed promptly in accordance with the Health, Safety, and Training management schedule
