Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Boilermaker to join our busy Maintenance team at the Karara Mine Site.

In this role, you will be responsible for safely carrying out both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities, while meeting Karara’s standards for safety, efficiency, and quality. You will also contribute to maintenance planning and work scope development, supporting a culture of continuous improvement.

Working an 8 days on and 6 days off roster, FIFO from Perth or DIDO from Geraldton.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

  • Trade Qualification - Fabrication (Boilermaking/Welding) 
  • WA C class Drivers Licence
  • Previous experience as a Boilermaker in a maintenance processing plant environment
  • Demonstrated experience with generic process plant policies and procedures
  • Ability to plan work in line with predicted operational requirements
  • Basic computer literacy and knowledge
  • Demonstrated experience in using a CMMS
  • Proven understanding of risk assessment and management systems
  • National Police Clearance

Key Duties (but not limited to) :-

  • Collaborate with planning to develop maintenance scopes that improve reliability and reduce downtime
  • Perform scheduled and breakdown maintenance to required quality and manufacturer standards
  • Identify, report, and help resolve workplace issues and risks
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, procedures, and improvement initiatives
  • Maintain accurate SAP notifications for preventative and corrective tasks
  • Support STIC processes to ensure safe, timely task completion
  • Escalate equipment downtime and reliability concerns promptly

About Us

Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
