Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Health & Hygiene Advisor to join our site based Health, Safety & Training team. The Specialist will be tasked to recognise, measure, evaluate and control occupational health and hygiene hazards across Karara Operations and also develop, implement and manage ongoing occupational hygiene programs designed to protect personnel from exposure to chemical, biological and physical hazards.

Working on a Full-time 8 days on and 6 days off roster, FIFO from Perth or DIDO from Geraldton.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Tertiary qualified in a relevant occupational hygiene, allied health or safety discipline with experience in a similar role
  • Experience with incident investigations and risk assessment techniques
  • Membership of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH)
  • Strong communication, engagement and influencing skills
  • Analytical capability
  • Current Surface Ventilation Officer and Noise Officer Certification mining experience will be highly regarded
  • National Police Clearance

Key Duties (but not limited to) :- 

  • Liaise with relevant regulatory authorities as required
  • Maintain certification of monitoring equipment and manage consumable stock levels to ensure continuous monitoring capability
  • Ensure all monitoring, measurement, and reporting activities related to ventilation, radiation, noise, and other hygiene hazards comply with relevant legislation and company policies
  • Report all non-conformances and exceedances in the Karara incident management database and ensure appropriate investigations and corrective actions are implemented
  • Develop and deliver training and awareness programs to promote compliance with hygiene, noise, and radiation standards
  • Provide safety leadership and support compliance activities as a senior member of the Health, Safety and Training team

About Us

Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
