The opportunity
We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Contracts Superintendent to join our Business Planning and Commercial team in the Perth CBD office.
You will be leading and supporting a passionate and highly skilled Commercial Contracts team, while being responsible for overseeing the day to day management of all Karara’s contracting functions in accordance with company policies and procedures.
To be successful in the role, the following is essential:
- Degree qualifications in Commerce/Business - Legal or Contract Management
- Solid understanding of Mining Operations
- Practical commercial and a strong legal bias
- Highly developed spoken and written communication skills
- Sound understanding of the principles and practice of commercial negotiation with significant practical experience
- Practical experience in the use and development of contractual documentation in Commodity, Service and Project type contracts
- Significant experience in awarding and managing large contracts
- National Police Clearance

Key Duties:
- Lead contract planning and negotiations with external contractors to ensure service delivery and protect commercial interests
- Develop and maintain Purchase Order Terms and Conditions to meet Company requirements and minimise risk
- Review and approve new supplier service requests
- Manage day-to-day services contracts, including drafting and revising goods and services contracts
- Draft, interpret, and manage complex, high-value contracts
- Lead end-to-end contract processes from tender through variations
- Ensure compliance with contracting, governance, and approval requirements
- Drive commercial outcomes that maximise value for the Company
- Provide commercial advice and strategies for managing complex and high-risk contracts
- Support Purchasing with commercial input on high-risk supply contracts
- Oversee the contracts register and contract-related cost management
- Manage contractual disputes and related legal matters
- Work with stakeholders to establish clear plans, accountability, and solutions
- Ensure transparent communication and reporting to stakeholders and direct reports

About Karara Mining
Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
