Karara Mining Limited is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community in which we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Human Resources Business Partner (Senior HRBP) to join our site-based team.

The Senior HRBP will be tasked to provide operational alignment of HR meeting the needs of the business, through working closely with management and leaders along with providing high level HR consultancy and coaching services and advice to the business on a range of complex people matters and the effective delivery of fit for purpose HR initiatives to help achieve the goals of the business unit and the wider Company.

This position operates on 5 days on 2 days off / 4 days on 3 days roster flying out from Perth.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

  • A tertiary qualification in Human Resources or similar.
  • Proven experience in a senior HR business partner/ generalist role.
  • Solid understanding of the relevant employment instrument and legislation, sound judgement and high-level ability to interpret and analyse HR policies.
  • Strong ability to initiate, build and maintain strong and effective relationships and partnerships with all levels of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high level consultancy and coaching services and advice to the business on a range of complex people matters, including the ability to diagnose organisational development needs and provide solutions of strategic and integrated interventions.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to details and time management skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work with cross-functional working teams.

Key Duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders as a business partner to lead the design and execution of organisational initiatives to ensure successful implementation.
  • Conducting and leading HR investigations, ensuring compliance with company policies and employment regulations while maintaining confidentiality and fairness throughout the process.
  • Actively partner with leaders on organisational development and improvement, competencies and capability need analysis and action planning on gaps to build a high performing organisation aligned to the overall business strategy of KML.
  • Managing workers' compensation claims for non-work-related injuries, including liaising with relevant stakeholders to ensure effective case management and return-to-work processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement on site, strengthening internal and external relationships and provide regular feedback to HR management and key stakeholders.
  • Set and implement fit for purpose HR projects on site to meet business area’s HR need, to better achieve operational goals.
  • Provide coaching to Site and Port leaders to support effective workplace relationships and increase the effectiveness in managing people related matters.
  • Responsible for the management of performance related HR matters, assist management in effective management of teams, provide guidance and advice.
  • As a company representative, provide advice and support to leaders and employees on ER/IR matters.
  • Be responsible for identifying people related issues and ensuring appropriate strategies are implemented to address any risk exposure.
  • Ensure adherence to KML HR policies and procedures at operational level.
  • Build effective relationships with leaders and other key stakeholders

Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
