The opportunity

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Superintendent to join our Equipment Maintenance team on site, operating on an 8 days on and 6 days off roster. 

This position is responsible for optimising on-site production operations, driving and implementing improvements, and ensuring the efficient availability of factory assets. Through these measures, the maintenance department will achieve operational goals, establish systematic maintenance methods, and implement continuous improvement methods to reduce production operating costs.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

• Recognised Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
• WA "C" Class manual driver's licence.
• Strong material processing plant experience.
• Minimum 5 years’ mining experience with proven understanding in mineral processing operation and mechanical and electrical equipment including crushing, grinding, flotation, thickening, and filtering plants.
• Proven experience in a senior leadership position managing a medium to large team in a mining or other heavy industry.
• Proven experience establishing and implementing project in a metallurgical plant environment.
• Computer literacy, with proficiency in CMMS Maintenance Systems (preferably SAP) and the MS Office suite.
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.
• National Police Clearance.

Key Duties (but not limited to):

• Lead the development of budgets and budget forecasts for operations optimisation project.
• Develop improvement initiatives to reduce production operating costs and drive efficiencies in all equipment maintenance activities particularly, plant reliability.
• Encourage Engineers and Contractors to resolve issues that may impact production and the operation of equipment through solution execution.
• Identify areas where new equipment, technology and materials can be introduced to improve performance and promote cost reductions without a compromising on safety.
• Act as the interface with other KML departments and contract partners to ensure a smooth communication approach resulting in effective operations.

Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.
