The opportunity
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Filtration team on site, operating on an 8 days on and 6 days off roster.
This position will play a pivotal role in enhancing the productivity of the magnetite processing plant. Collaborating closely with the maintenance team, you will ensure equipment reliability aligns with operational targets for cost, production and safety.
To be successful in the role, the following is essential:
- Recognised Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
- WA "C" Class manual driver's licence.
- Minimum 3 years’ mining experience in mechanical engineering within a processing plant environment (preferably Magnetite processing).
- Demonstrable success in applying engineering principles and statistical data analysis and implementing processes.
- Familiarity with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and 5 Whys work process methods and tools.
- Computer literacy, with proficiency in CMMS Maintenance Systems (preferably SAP) and the MS Office suite.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.
- National Police Clearance.
To be eligible to apply for this role you must be legally permitted to work permanently in Australia.
Key Duties (but not limited to):
- Provide support to the business by identifying and rectifying mechanical engineering issues in operating equipment.
- Undertake mechanical design and project work, ensuring all engineering components comply with Australian standards.
- Offer technical support and coaching to the maintenance team across all aspects of Mechanical Engineering.
- Manage and review the team's work output to ensure compliance with engineering and statutory requirements.
- Encourage engineers and contractors to resolve issues affecting production and equipment operation through effective solution execution.
- Act as the interface with other Karara departments and contract partners to facilitate smooth communication.
- Conduct regular inspections to proactively identify potential problems.

About Karara Mining
Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
