Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

The opportunity
We have an opportunity for experienced Preventative Maintenance Technicians to join our site Mechanical Maintenance team. This role is responsible for improvement in the reliability of mechanical equipment at the Karara Mine Site. The Technician will play an active part in improving preventative maintenance practices, inspections and effectively engage with the operations and Mechanical Engineering team to develop an improvement proposal.
This position operates on an 8 days on 6 days off day shift roster, FIFO from Perth or DIDO from Geraldton.
To be successful in the role, the following is essential:
- Mechanical Trade qualification
- WA 'C' Class Drivers Licence
- Previous experience with online and offline equipment inspections of processing plant equipment (preferably Magnetite processing)
- Computer literacy with previous experience in CMMS Maintenance Systems (SAP preferred)
- Demonstrated ability in the MS Office suite of programs
- Familiarity with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and 5 Whys work process methods and tools.
- Sound knowledge of asset management systems and principals and strategy development processes and tools
- National Police check

Key Duties (but not limited to) :-
- Provide support and coaching to Performance Based Maintenance Contractors (PBMC) and KML maintenance teams in the execution of preventative maintenance strategies
- Promote sustainability of Work Management Systems (WMS) and standards while identifying improvement opportunities that increase the reliability of plant and equipment
- Create, develop, and review all new equipment maintenance strategies and documentation prior to approval and uploading into SAP
- Participate in the identification, development, and implementation of improvement projects within the maintenance department
- Assist with investigations and provide technical input for relevant equipment failures and troubleshooting activities
- Work alongside the operations and maintenance teams to communicate the opportunities for value adding activities
- Conduct regular audits on all SAP work management compliance metrics identifying and communicating areas for improvement to all stakeholders
About Karara Mining
Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
