Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.
The opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Water Management Coordinator to join our Environment & Communities team, responsible for the operational management of day-to-day planning for water management activities with provision of supervision and guidance to the team and stakeholders as required.
This position also assists in general reporting, compliance monitoring/inspection/audit and other water management activities in a site environment.
These positions are site-based operating on an 8 days on 6 days off roster, FIFO from Perth or DIDO from Geraldton.
To be successful in the role, the following is essential:
- WA C Class Drivers Licence
- Required Tickets – loader, skid steer, forklift, dogging/rigging, poly welding and electro-fusion
- Demonstrated experience in a water management position in a mining or other heavy industry
- Experience in the operation and maintenance of water supply systems
- Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite
- Working knowledge of SAP
- Experience in coordinating projects and subcontractors
- National Police clearance
- Current vaccinations for Hepatitis A and Tetanus (mandatory)

Key Duties - (but not limited to):
- Supervise the efficient operation and maintenance of KML water supply systems
- Engage with contractors and suppliers to ensure operations are aligned to all financial and operational goals
- Lead and mentor the team in poly pipe management, pipelines, dewatering, pumps and maintenance activities at KML
- Provide advice and supervision when required for all poly welding activities
- Supervise the efficient operation and maintenance of Karara’s water supply systems

- Develop safe systems on the maintenance of raw water, drinking water and wastewater infrastructure through standards, policies and procedures
- Engage with Karara’s Mining, Processing and Maintenance departments to ensure:
- Dry-pit mining conditions are maintained
- Capital water infrastructure is constructed in a timely and effective manner
- Water supply to the plant is maintained to support continuous operation with no impact on operations
- Ensure borefield infrastructure is maintained to minimise disruption to the plant
- Coordinate and complete the sampling of groundwater to meet all compliance and regulatory requirements
- Complete required field monitoring activities to ensure compliance with Karara’s Groundwater Licence Operating Strategies
- Coordinate the installation and removal of groundwater infrastructure
- Ensure sampling and analysis of drinking water samples is completed in accordance with KML compliance requirements
- Streamline water management and maintenance processes and identify improvement opportunities with regards to KML’s water supply and water management infrastructure (improved reliability of water supply / productivity outcomes)
- Improve business outcomes through the establishment of documented processes and systems for key water management activities such as the extraction of bore and turkey nest pumps, generator and standpipe management and poly and electro-fusion welding
- Account for contractor personnel activities on site and sign off on activity timesheets
- Effectively communicate changes to water infrastructure through formal and informal processes
About Karara Mining
Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
