Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmaker

The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Hydraulic Technician to join our team on site, working on an 8/6 roster flying out from Perth. You will be responsible for ongoing maintenance, installation of hydraulic components and equipment to ensure operational maintenance meets KML standards of safety, efficiency and quality.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

• Relevant trade qualification Cert III Mechanical Engineering (Fitter).
• Specialist Hydraulic – Cert IV Fluid power.
• Western Australian C Class Drivers Licence.
• Demonstrated trade/post-trade experience working in a process plant equipment in a mining or other heavy industry.
• Proven experience with generic process plant policies and procedures.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, SAP maintenance and risk assessment systems.
• Knowledge and experience in using a CMMS.

Key Duties:

• Perform assigned scheduled and unscheduled work in a timely manner.
• Conduct fault finding activities to ensure faults identification and rectification.
• Review inventory and spares to ensure all required components are available and in stock, preventing supply shortages.
• Perform all tasks to the specification and quality advised by equipment manufacturers.
• Identify, implement and communicate improvement opportunities in all hydraulics and maintenance processes.
• Review and Update Hydraulic MST’s with Engineering team.
• Provide training and familiarisation with mechanical team.
• Actively and attentively conduct prestart inspections on maintenance vehicles and equipment rectifying identified defects where possible ensuring equipment is in a safe condition before use.
• Inspect and scope all job requirements before carrying out maintenance tasks reviewing detailed job plans, identifying specialist tool or equipment requirements and conducting risk assessments to ensure the task is completed in a timely, cost effective manner and safety is not compromised.
• Provide input on Short Term Interval Control task management assisting in the identification of any remedial actions to ensure tasks are completed in the planned timeframe and safety is not compromised.

About Karara Mining

Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
