Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China.
Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.
The opportunity
We are seeking multiple Mechanical Engineers to join our team on site working on an 8/6 day shift roster.
These newly created positions will play a pivotal role in enhancing the productivity of the magnetite processing plant. Collaborating closely with the maintenance team, you will ensure equipment reliability aligns with operational targets for cost, production and safety.
To be successful in the role, the following is essential:
- Recognised Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
- WA "C" Class manual driver's licence.
- Minimum 3 years’ mining experience in mechanical engineering within a processing plant environment (preferably Magnetite processing).
- Demonstrable success in applying engineering principles and statistical data analysis and implementing processes.
- Familiarity with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and 5 Whys work process methods and tools.
- Computer literacy, with proficiency in CMMS Maintenance Systems (preferably SAP) and the MS Office suite.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.
- National Police Clearance (no later than 6 months old).
Key Duties (but not limited to):
- Provide support to the business by identifying and rectifying mechanical engineering issues in operating equipment.
- Undertake mechanical design and project work, ensuring all engineering components comply with Australian standards and other regulatory requirements.
- Offer technical support and coaching to the maintenance team across all aspects of Mechanical Engineering.
- Manage and review the team's work output to ensure compliance with engineering and statutory requirements, minimizing adverse risks to the business.
- Encourage engineers and contractors to resolve issues affecting production and equipment operation through effective solution execution.
- Act as the interface with other Karara departments and contract partners to facilitate smooth communication and ensure operational effectiveness.
- Conduct regular inspections to proactively identify potential problems.
About Karara Mining
Located 200 km south- east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
